Today turned into a day in nature. We originally went in search of ‘The Angel
Shop’ because, well we were curious.
Along the way we saw some interesting architecture and stopped to let
Lori get some pictures. We also found
the Herb
Hadfield Conservation Area. This is
a very beautiful hiking area with 2.5 miles of moderate terrain. The trail map box was empty but I easily
downloaded the trail map with my cell phone.
There are three loop trails and the red trail runs from the parking lot
at one trailhead to the parking lot at the other trailhead for those that want
to set up a through hike. I’m sure you
can arrange the loops to create any distance you need. This area includes
Angeline Brook, which provides a suitable habitat for sea-run brook trout. Be advised that hunting is allowed on this
property.
Our next stop was the Allens
Pond Wildlife Sanctuary run by Massachusetts Audubon Society. This is another area for easy hiking with
over 7 miles of trails. Other than the
beach path, which traverses loose rock, every path is more like hiking
farmland.
The trails at Allens Pond
provide nice views of Buzzards Bay and Allens ponds and make a nice way to
spend an hour – or pack a picnic and spend the afternoon. Here you do not need
a trail map because the terrain is coastal and open but, they are also
available for free download on their web site.
For us, being outdoors is what the RV lifestyle is supposed
to be about. Getting out and being in
nature and exploring your new location, whether it is a hiking trail or that
quaint village you just drove through. Get
out – explore – be interactive. I don’t know how many people I see pull into
campgrounds with very expensive rigs, put out the satellite dish and that will
be the last you see of them – I just don’t get it.
