My primary
chore for the day was to contact the Submarine Base and ensure the efforts of
the ID card office did not go unrecognized.
They were that much better than their counterparts in Newport. I also did some minor maintenance on my Ryobi generator. The generator has been run every day for two
weeks so it was time to check the oil and give it a general look over – especially
since it was temperamental the other day!
Now that the
work was done it became one of those times when we realized we just need an
escape. Today was one of those days.
Since we are gearing up for the weekend here and Lori and I both have cleaning
duty today we would not be able to get away for long. I remembered a place my friends and I used to
go as children (pre-teen).
It was a
Honda – they only made motorcycles back then – dealership and they used to rent
QA-50’s (think pocket bikes for you youngsters) and the 70 cc cycle of
the day – I think it was a CT-70. We
used to save up and head out there and rent QA-50’s and ride them on trails (at least the
posted signs told us to “Stay on the trails”) throughout the property. They didn’t go very fast but I’m sure we all
envisioned ourselves Easy Riders! The place is still a motorcycle dealership,
but independent now selling a wide variety of makes and models.
From there
it was a short sightseeing tour down Drift Rd. which passes some magnificent
estates as well as rolling farm land.
What a mix of architecture! Since every trip has a purpose ours was to
refill the 5 pound propane bottle. So we
made a quick stop at Westport Ace
Hardware for another
refill of about ½ gallon. Better than running the tank dry!
From there it was the scenic route back towards
the campground and then a tour of East beach Rd. East Beach Rd consist of lots, typically
60x100ft with a shed and either a travel trailer or tiny house. As we drove by there was a lot for sale on
the non-beach side of the road for $196K.
Almost beach front property in New England has some value!!
