Craft Burgers

Well our time here at Horseneck Beach SP is drawing to a close.  There is so much we wanted to do that will go undone.  We may get to it the next time we are here – since our plan is to apply to host camp here in the spring and fall. The big hurdle is deciding on exactly how long and during what periods.  The sad part is that soon we will head south to escape the bitter New England winter and we will miss having time with the grandkids.  But, the snow will melt and flowers will bloom reassuring the grandkids that we will be returning soon.
Since it was raining we decided to knock out laundry today.  We also dropped off scarves Lori made at the New Bedford Veterans Transition House were they assured us they will all find good homes.  It is really a shame that we even need these facilities.
One of the items that was on our ‘must do’ list was a trip to dNB Burgers in downtown New Bedford.
I saw a Youtube clip of this place a few years ago and noticed that the owner was wearing a submarine ball cap – turns out he is not a submariner and stopped wearing it because he got a ration over it.  If you visit dNB leave your trailer behind and if you are in a large vehicle arrive after 5 p.m. because this is a large city ‘downtown’ area and parking is not designed for RVs.  However, after 5 p.m. and on weekends the meter readers do not work so park anywhere and disregard the parking meters (you didn’t here this from me!).  Parking aside this place is incredible if you like a good burger.  My advice, find one of the specialty burgers on the menu and subtract items you do not want.  If you try the ‘build a burger’ option the cost can quickly sneak up on you.  Everything on the menu at dNB is locally sourced and made fresh (even the bacon is cured in-house) so the burgers run about $12 – they are huge though.  The onion rings here are hand cut and come with an awesome horseradish aioli.  French fries are uniquely seasoned and come with regular and spicy ketchup (catsup?)  Considering you’ll spend about $9/burger at Five Guys the added price of the craft burgers becomes a bargain (my opinion here – please no SPAM).
