One advantage to the full-time life style is that we now eat
healthier and it seems to be paying dividends.
It wasn’t a life-style choice on our part. It was born out of necessity. Believe me, this was an adjustment because in
our house we had a large refrigerator/freezer plus a standup freezer and both
were always stocked. Because we have a
relatively small travel trailer we also have a relatively small refrigerator /
freezer.
We find that we no longer store
bags of frozen vegetables, opting instead to get fresh vegetables at local
farmers markets. At the farmers markets
we usually stumble across fresh fruit that looks good and buy some of that . As a consequence of our ‘impulse buying’ we
now snack healthier. I’ve also noticed
that we snack much less since we’ve hit the road full-time but I’m not sure
why.
Because the refrigerator is smaller leftovers become more
visible and also take up valuable space.
We’ve figured out that with an 8” tortilla shell and some grated cheese
you can make a quesadilla out of almost everything. An omelet is also an easy way to disguise
most leftovers. So along with buying smarter those smart
decisions translate into smart leftovers and that means we eat out less.
When you live in tight quarters (except for the extra large
play room outside the camper) every night becomes “date night”. So along with eating more (and healthier)
leftovers we just have less desire to eat out and only really do it because we
are on a long day trip or there is a
place or a special food we really want. We are on a perpetual get-away – so there is
nothing to get away from!
