Don Garlitz Museum of Drag Racing and Drag Racing Hall of Fame

The Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing is an easy access attraction just off Interstate 75 in Ocala, FL . The museum opened in 1984 and it chronicles the history of the sport of drag racing. Some 90 racing cars can be seen in the Drag Race building, while a further 50 vehicles are in the Antique Car building. Many of the Garlits "Swamp Rat" cars are here, but he also turns out to be a pack rat with an accumulation of cars and memorabilia from other top names in the sport. The iconic cars of Dean Moon (remember moon hubcaps?), the Mooneyes gas dragster and the Moonbeam sports car are on display. Much two my enjoyment there were displays from my two favorite racers, Bruce (USA-1) Larson and “Jungle” Jim Liberman.

Plus there is a small display on the old Gasser class, Remember Stone, Woods, and Cook!

The museum is also home to the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame. In 1997 a solid granite Hall of Fame monument was created, thanks to Garlits and support from R.J. Reynolds (Winston). The beautiful monument is located at the entrance to the museum and contains the names of all members. The permanent acknowledgment of the monument and its honor to those names, are engraved here for visitors of the museum to enjoy.
Adult admission is $20 with a $5 off for the standard discounts.  If you like drag racing plan a a few hours here!
